Mission City Brawlin Betties vs. Prison City Derby Dames
On May 7, the Mission City Brawlin’ Betties hosted the Prison City Derby Dames for the Betties’ third bout of the season. Santa Barbara made up for the last rained-out home bout by offering up some perfect skating weather—refreshing temperatures with sun breaking through the clouds 10 minutes before game time.
The Betties were off to a great start, leading in points from the first jam. The Betties’ blockers held Prison City’s jammers back with some heavy hits and a strong wall at the front of the pack. The Betties took advantage of power jams and outnumbered the opposing blockers due to Prison City's frequent visits to the penalty box. By halftime, the Betties had a substantial point lead.
In the second half, each player took turns jamming, including several who have never jammed in a bout before. Debut jammers included poster girl Cherry Napalm with several grand slams, and Semper Fatale racked up 20+ points, too. Even Coach Dita De Los Muertos made her jamming debut with the Betties. When the final whistle blew on the last jam, the Betties had won 242-48. What a game!
The Betties are now 3-0 in 2011, and are on a 8-game winning streak.

Mission City Brawlin Betties vs. Sonoma County Roller Derby Homewreckers
On April 16th, 2011 the Mission City Brawlin' Betties (MCBB) faced one of their toughest opponents yet, the Sonoma County Roller Derby (SCRD) Wine Country Homewreckers.
In the first half of the bout, the Betties accumulated several penalties, causing them to frequently face disadvantaged numbers in the pack. Many players skated back-to-back jams, causing the Betties to look and play a little frazzled. The hard-hitting Homewreckers took advantage of this and were able to gang up on the Bettie blockers, splitting them up with big hits and getting their own jammers through with ease. At halftime SCRD led the game 62 to 38.
Despite the 24 point deficit, MCBB remained positive going into the second half. With a new game plan and the support of a huge away game crowd, the Betties played very strong in the second half. The blockers stayed together in pairs and took control of the pack, not getting distracted by the hits of Sonoma County, and enabled their jammers to get through quickly and run away with the game. MCBB scored almost 3 times as many points in the second half as they did in the first, winning the game 141 to 89.
The Betties are now 2-0 in 2011, and are on a 7-game winning streak.

Mission City Brawlin Betties vs. V-Town Derby Dames
Whoooaaaaa Betties! The Mission City Brawlin' Betties won a nail-biter in their last home game of the 2010 season Saturday, November 6 against Visalia's V-Town Derby Dames.
MCBB got off to a slow start with 4 scoreless jams in a row and V-Town took a quick 6-0 lead. The V-Town blockers were so aggressive it caught the Bettie blockers off guard. During the first half, both teams won lead jammer 9 times, MCBB players spent 3 minutes in the penalty box, and VTDD spent 4 minutes in the box. On paper, the stats were pretty even, but the V-Town blockers controlled the bout throughout the first half and at half time the score was 58-42 in their favor.
The Betties had never lost a home game before and they were determined to come back strong in the second half. The first few jams of the second half started out slowly again, but the Betties steadily chipped away at V-Town's lead. Then, during the 5th jam, team captain Viva Violence came out of nowhere and won a 14-0 jam, scoring almost as many points in one jam as she had during the entire first half. This 14-0 run made the score 71-69 and gave MCBB their first lead of the game. The crowd went crazy chanting "Viva, Viva, Viva!" and the momentum changed in the Betties' favor. Then, just two jams later, Vino Noir, another Betties' jammer, had her best jam of the game as well. Vino outscored V-Town's jammer 24-4 in one jam increasing the Betties lead to 99-77. Overall in the second half the Brawlin' Betties outscored VTDD 84-36, and won the game with a final score of 126-94.
This victory took the Brawlin' Betties to 9-1 overall for the season. The key to MCBB's second half success was winning lead jammer and calling the jam off strategically. In the second half the Betties won lead jammer 9 times, and won 8 of those 9 jams. V-Town, on the other hand, only won lead jammer 5 times in the second half, and won only 2 those 5 jams. Of course, jammers don't win lead jammer status on their own- the Bettie blockers played a crucial part in the team's success. MCBB's blockers really picked up their game during the second half, making holes for their jammers, controlling V-Town's pack, and proving that V is indeed for Violence!

Mission City Brawlin Betties vs. Sin Cal Derby Vixens
Betties win 342-22! The Mission City Brawlin' Betties took home another win on October 23, 2010 against the Sin Cal Derby Vixens in Lindsay, CA. The Betties took an early lead against Sin Cal and never looked back, focusing on one goal- to stop SCDV's jammers from getting through the pack. Achieving this goal and more, the Betties were able to play their less experienced skaters and move their more experienced players to new positions while still maintaining a steady lead. Blockers Stella Ar-Twat and Booty Ninja debuted as jammers for the first time in this bout.

Mission City Brawlin Betties vs. Bakersfield Diamond Divas
A huge Santa Barbara crowd came out to cheer on their Mission City Brawlin' Betties Saturday, October 2 in their first home bout since June. MCBB faced a fierce 13-1 Bakersfield Diamond Divas team who were coming off of their first loss with a vengeance to regain their momentum. The game was an absolute battle with several big hits that threw the skaters into the crowd. The Divas played a big, physical game, but the Betties' strategy won them the bout in the end. By focusing on earning Lead Jammer and slowing down the pack, the Bettie blockers were able to control the tempo of the game while their speedy jammers racked up the points. With a final score of 141-102, the Betties move to 7-1 for the season.

Mission City Brawlin Betties vs. CCRD SLO Slammers
On June 12, 2010 the Betties faced one of their most challenging opponents this season when they hosted CCRD's SLO Slammers at the Earl Warren Showgrounds.
With several veteran players unable to bout due to injury, MCBB had four freshmeat players – Lem E. Atom, Puff Puff Pass, Vicious Vagintina and Miss Hisssss – making their derby debut against an experienced CCRD team, and the odds seemed to be stacked against them.
CCRD took an early 13-4 lead, and just when it looked like the Betties might take their first loss of the season, they rallied together for an immediate 28-0 run and never looked back. The veteran and freshmeat blockers created a lot of space on the track for their jammers by controlling the pack and landing big hits on CCRD. The jammers took advantage of these opportunities and went on a scoring frenzy, ending the game with a 195-71 win, and keeping their perfect record (4-0).

Mission City Brawlin Betties vs. Nor Cal Roller Girls
On April 17, 2010 the Brawlin' Betties got down and derby with the Nor Cal Roller Girls. This bout was the Betties' first home game of the 2010 season and they put on a show for their home crowd in Santa Barbara, delivering a 147-84 win. Nor Cal played a defensive game and executed devastating hits on the MCBB players, but the Betties' team offense was just too much for Nor Cal to handle. The Betties worked together to keep the penalties low and the points high, outscoring Nor Cal by 30+ points each half.
April 10, 2010 // Santa Maria, CA
Mission City Brawlin Betties vs. Santa Maria Ruff Rollerz
On April 10, 2010 the Santa Maria Ruff Rollerz hosted the Mission City Brawlin' Betties for the battle of Santa Barbara county. The Bettie blockers took control of the pack early on in the bout, slowing down the pace to help their jammers speed by, while still holding SMRR to just 2 points in the first half. Viva Violence!, Foxx 4s, Cherry Napalm, and fresh meat jammer Bacon & Legs took advantage of the slow pack and racked up points for the Betties. In her first jam ever, Bacon & Legs scored 3 grand slams!! Blocker X-Tina Kochina made her derby debut as well and helped her fellow Betties keep their momentum through the second half. Santa Maria showed a lot of heart, but Santa Barbara's Mission City Brawlin' Betties skated away with the win, and the county, decidedly beating the Ruff Rollerz 242 to 16.
